Acceptance of Homosexuality -- Biological & Environmental Factor, Treatment (science)

We should accept homosexual because this is their true nature. Some homosexual individuals have struggle to become normal in order to avoid any conflict between any parties but however, they have failed to change because it wasn’t their choice and they were ‘Born This Way’. According to The Quarterly Review of Biology, researchers William Rice, a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Urban Friberg, a professor at Uppsala University in Sweden, believe that homosexuality can be explained by the presence of epi-marks — temporary switches that control how our genes are expressed during gestation and after we're born. These researchers have completed a study that suggests we will probably never find a ‘gay gene’. This is because researchers researcher found out sexual orientation is not about genetics, it is about epigenetics. Epigenetics is the process where DNA expression influenced by any number of external factors.

External factors which are also known as environmental factors are the main factors contributing to the existence of homosexuality. According to Life News, 2006, Family Environment such as parental divorse, unidentified paternal identity, short duration of living together with parents, and long period of father-absent living with mother or long duration of mother absence due either to death or abandonment during the child or teen years are all connected with increased rates of homosexual marriage. Dr. Elizabeth Moberly believes that homosexual orientation was not caused by genetic, hormonal or learning factors but result of unmet same sex-love needs in childhood. For example, most Male homosexuals often have a dominant, supportive mother and a weak, remote or hostile father while Lesbians may have had a dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship.  Besides, peer group environment, pressure are also a main causes determining the sexual orientation of an individuals. For those children, specifically the non-masculine male or the masculine female, the identification with opposite sex peer group may prove easier. This can cause gender confusion in teen or adolescence and identification with the same sex peer group who are suffering from the same feelings of isolation. Hence, external factors should be the best explaination to the existence of homosexuals.

There are some parties may argued that homosexuality is a diseases and it can be treated by undergoing certain medication. However, there are no case of “healed” individuals is yet to be recorded via the intake of medical substances or other medical apparatuses. According to medical sciences, Pathology treatment, branch of medicine that deals with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes. Up until now, homosexuality cannot be classified as a pathological condition because efforts to try and change homosexuals to heterosexuals cannot be done medically by the intake of medical substances. This alone is evidence that it is not a disease but rather a human gene variation causes by mutation of genes. It is concluded that homosexuality is not a disease but rather a natural process of variation. On the other hand, religious people believe that homosexuality can be cured by going through a ritual process. In many parts of the world, homosexuality is seen as an addiction, demonic possession or a mental illness. Therefore, therapist or religion leader believes that reorientation therapy, religion rituals can be conduct to heal homosexuality. Even though this method has many cases stating that it has worked, however, due to the fact that most of the people found on the lists were somehow related to the therapists, their testimonies could have been fabricated to assure the success of the projects that they were working on. In short, this could not be used as concrete evidence that such method do actually work.

Acceptance of Homosexuality -- Human Rights

We should also acknowledge homosexuals’ human right as homosexuals individuals are also came out from a mother womb as the others. Every parts of the world fights for human rights, for instances, black people fight for equality, Nelson Mandela who successfully break the barrier between blacks and whites and united all of them. There are also people around the world who fight for the equality of homosexuals, because homosexuals Individuals are discriminated by National Laws. Homosexual acts are banned in most Asian country such as Iran, Nigeria, Malaysia, Jamaica, Iraq, Singapore and etc. Punishment such as death penalty, prison life sentences, caning would be given to individuals who are verified as a homosexual individuals.  For example, In Singapore, national law, section 377a of the penal code states that “Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or abets the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years.” This law eventually lead to a several other effects to homosexuals individuals in Singapore because they  are also not possible to get benefits, such as medical benefits – for your dependents (e.g. husband or children) from company. In certain company, they may lose the chance and opportunity to obtain the chances of increment in pay or promote. In term of housing, same-sex couples who wished to finance their property jointly could only do so if they were both unmarried Singapore citizens, 35 years of age or above and purchased a Housing & Development Board (HDB) or public housing flat from the open market while for married couples in Singapore, they are allowed to buy the house once they are married. In certain companies, they may lose the chance and opportunity to obtain the chances of increment in pay or promote.

Human hates to be discriminated, a fat people doesn’t like being called a fatty, a short people doesn’t like being called a shorty, and a black people doesn’t like being called a blacky and the same applies to homosexuals individuals. In this 20th century, in most Asian country, homosexual individuals are being discriminated badly by the society. According to statistics, 92% of LGBT youth say they hear negative messages about being LGBT, and most of them are being teased badly. In addition, most LGBT students are being bullied and harass in school. This phenomenon may cause a high level of pressure and stress to the individual and sometimes it can even traumatise the individuals. Research also indicates that persistent bullying can lead to or worsen feelings of isolation, rejection, exclusion and despair, as well as to depression and anxiety, which can contribute to suicidal behavior. Besides that, some LGBT children also faces a great rejection from their family when they are coming out to their family. Half of gay males experiences a negative parental reaction and approximate 26% of them are being thrown out of the home. Society rejection along with family rejection may eventually cause a high level of loneliness and depression in a teenager. Why should a normal teenagers suffered from these stress and anxiety when they can eventually get a good grade, graduate from a university and contribute to the society?

Whether exam should be abolished? (Revised)

Exams are a type challenge which is tested frequently in many different ways and levels in our lives to gauge our current levels. According to the survey, what cause a students to be frightened the most is “exams”. Some students may argued that exam should be abolished because it causes a high level of stress and anxiety. However, I believe that exams play a crucial role in our school’s life and definitely trained us in many different aspects. Therefore, i disagree that exam should be abolished.

First and the foremost, student’s academic standard will be deteriorated if all of the exams are abolished. Based on my experience, as a student itself, i wouldn’t study at all if there are actually no exams around the corner.  As most of the students have the same ideas in their brain, a teacher will have a harder time teaching the class because  students prioritise other stuff rather than the learning time in class. According to the observation of teachers in the new education system in Malaysia which are abolishing PMR and introducing of the new system PBS, (Pentaksiran Berasaskan Sekolah a.k.a School-Based Assessment), students tend to ignore their studies because there aren’t any standard government exams which are able to categories all of the students grades as one. Concurrently, students are not able to choose their streams, arts or science when they are pursuing from form 3 to form 4.

Besides that, exams shouldn’t be abolished because grades allow a teacher to distribute a class into several categories, which are weak, average and   strong. At the same time, a professional teacher can actually find out a student weakness and strength in certain subjects. By doing so, a teacher can probably figure out the best solution and a correct teaching method to teach a student. Hence, abolishing exams may not be a good solution.

Lastly, I feel that exam shouldn’t be abolished in the school level because we can not avoid having any exams throughout our whole lives. These exams in the school level will allow us to gained more experience to actually face the “True Exam” of our lives. These experience will eventually decreases the severity of the stress given by our boss to us in our future.

In conclusion, abolishing exams will actually brought up a lot of disadvantages. Therefore, I strongly disagree that exams should be abolished. Even though I personally hate exams, but think about the future, imagining you’re having a severe diseases and you’re meeting up a unlicensed doctor , are you willing to be checked or even having surgery from that doctor?

Compare Reading news online and Reading the hard copy of the newspaper (Reedited after comment) :)

Newspapers are the first items that keep us up to date with news that happened all over the world which has been invented many centuries ago. As centuries past, technologies have been greatly improved. Electronic gadgets indirectly also consumed electricity which causes us need to pay additional electricity bills.

In my opinion, I feel that reading newspapers online are more convenience compared to reading hard copy of newspaper. This is because with the improvement of technologies, smartphones are one of the basic requirement of human being and most people have one for themselves regarding ages or sex. No matter reading news online or reading hard copy of newspaper, they are both equally important to us because it keep updated with the current news around the world.
