My name is
Chew Yee Jian and I’m 18. I came from a place which is famous for the food
called “Bak KutTeh”, Klang.
I have a 2 elder brothers and a lovely mother. My
father has passed away when I was in standard 5 in primary school, since then I
usually in the house with my mother because both of my brothers
have already enrolled in varsity.
In 2013 June, it was the time for me to leave the home and
enrolled in a university named Multimedia University (MMU) in Malacca. On the first night in the
hostel, I couldn’t really sleep well because I cried for a long time before I really
fell asleep. The reason I cried was because I appreciate the effort that my mom
had made, it was not easy for a single parents to actually grown her 3 children
very well. Therefore, I decided to send a lovely “sms” to my mother on that
night. Besides that, i wouldn’t say I am not afraid of a new place since I’m
coming to Malacca without any friends accompanied.
My experience in MMU was quite good, it starts from the
orientation where I had a lot of fun with my drama’s team. Then, it goes on to
the first day of the semester where I met a lot of friends in my class. Even
though I’m afraid of taking the first step to approach people, I usually will
overcome those fear and talk to other people in the class. After a few
weeks, I probably have recognise and remembered most of
the classmates face and name and I have began to actually adapt to the
environment of the campus.
The best experience that I had in my first semester was the
chance to collaborate together with a few Namibian student. I had a great time
working together with them and for the first time I am able to approach a new
foreign culture and people.
5 months were past, and I am currently in the 2nd
semester of foundation, hopefully there will be more special experience and knowledge
for me to gained throughout the semester.
